From cross-country ski racing and Wacky Winter Bowling in downtown Tahoe City to Fourth of July fireworks and lakeside Oktoberfest, Tahoe City presents engaging family events throughout the year. “Visitors from San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and New York especially love Tahoe City’s vibe,” shares Stacie Lyans, Tahoe City Downtown Association’s (TCDA) Executive Director. “One of the many reasons visitors frequent our lakefront community is convenient access to the best ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada. After a day skiing or riding at Granlibakken Tahoe, Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows or Homewood, families love to explore Tahoe City’s award winning restaurants, independent shops and outstanding views.” Tahoe City is beginning to look like a winter wonderland and, according to the National Weather Service, more snow is on the way which bodes well for upcoming events. Inspired by cross-country ski races in Europe, The Cobblestone Relays are scheduled to take place at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park located at 251 North Lake Boulevard on Thursday, Feb. 26. “The Cobblestone Relays are one of the region’s best spectator events in addition to being incredibly fun for children and adult participants,” says Lyans. More information and registration will be available at alpenglowsports.com and wintersportspark.com. Also scheduled to take place at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park, is Wacky Winter Bowling, an innovative sledding competition that attracts children, teens and adults. Participants sled on saucers into blown-up “pins” on a snow covered bowling course on Sunday, March 1. Each team receives three chances to knock down as many pins as possible. Helmets are provided, and prizes will be awarded to first place in a variety of categories. Register in person at 10 a.m. For more information, go to VisitTahoeCity.com. “Our events showcase Tahoe City’s natural treasures and the incredible experiences available in town,” explains architect Gary Davis, President of TCDA’s Board of Directors.
