Based on the classic children’s storybook, “On Ugly Ducklings and Cross-Eyed Hens: Living in the gender fringe” is a visually rich Sierra College Insights talk designed to engage and provide a spark to move from disenfranchisement to empowerment. Dr. Bateman is known for her captivating story telling and insightful approach to teaching whether she's facilitating a workshop or teaching a psychology class.
The evening begins with for refreshments generously sponsored by Starbucks from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the presentation will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Visitors and residents, teens and seniors and all ages in between are encouraged to attend. “The archetype of the unusual or ‘ugly’ appears in our cultural narratives and can help us negotiate the crossfire of mixed messages about gender. We will explore the expression of masculine and feminine principles both within and outside ourselves,” shares Dr. Bateman.
