Have you visited the historic gems on and off Commercial Row in Truckee, CA? Or, heard the whispers about the scars left by raging fires and the deaths resulting from tragic mishaps on the rails? Entertaining stories and fascinating historic tales emerge in full force during the third annual Historical Haunted Tour in downtown Truckee on Thursday, Oct. 20 and Friday, Oct. 21, 2011.
Trained by the Truckee Donner Historical Society, story tellers will evoke ghosts from days gone by - a time when Truckee boasted more saloons than nearly other any small town west of the Mississippi - and speak of the town's vigilantes. Attention-grabbing legends will begin right outside the door of Moody’s Bistro and Lounge and, across the tracks, visitors will experience downtown like never before.
Covering Truckee’s most fascinating sites, the walking tour entertains guests from near and far with spooky legends and unsolved mysteries. Just announced 2011 sites include the Tourist Club, Cabona’s, the International Order of Odd Fellows and Masonic Hall and Train Depot. Online tickets for this adults-only event go on sale Monday, Aug. 15.
Lodging special are available with The Richardson House, River Street Inn and The Truckee Hotel. For example, book two nights at The Richardson House, which comfortably accommodates 12, and receive 50 percent discount off your third night (10154 High Street overlooking downtown Truckee, www.therichardsonhouse.com, 530-563-6874).
