“The Use of Movement in Praise of the Divine,” an interactive and visually rich talk in the Sierra College Insights’ speaker series, will be presented by dance choreographer and instructor Jennie Pitts-Knipe. The event is open to the community and offered at no cost in Truckee on Friday, April 11.
“Jennie’s depth of knowledge, exceptional ability to connect with an audience and passion for her craft promise to offer all attendees on April 11, a fascinating evening that explores the power of dance,” shares Dr. Kim Bateman, Executive Dean of Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee.
During the presentation, attendees will have a chance to exchange ideas on what they see, hear and experience. Video clips and stories will be both thought provoking and entertaining.
“We'll examine the many ways dance is used as a medium for connecting with the divine,” explains Pitts-Knipe. “From the lyrical movements of the hula to ecstatic trance dances, we'll look at samples of movement traditions from around the world to discover why and how people dance for god.” Pitts-Knipe is inspired by how humans relate to one another through movement and is constantly looking to cultivate joy and humor in both her art and in her teaching. She is a yoga and fitness instructor on the Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee campus. Pitts-Knipe is also the founder and artistic director of Four Rooms Dance Collective, a contemporary dance collaborative and is inspired by interconnections through movement. She earned her Masters in Fine Arts in dance from the University of Colorado.
The presentation will take place on the Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee campus, a community college that offers general education courses as well as career and technical education and community programs, is located at 11001 College Trail in Truckee. The evening begins with for refreshments generously sponsored by Starbucks from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the presentation will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
