“It was like uncorking joy in a bottle as musicians and dancers took to the amphitheater stage and presented a magical review of all that is good and wonderfully uplifting about creative experiences of life,” wrote Barbara Tieken in “The Wonderful Feeling of Being Alive,” an article recently published in the Texas Shiner Gazette.
More than 600 hikers participated Trails & Vistas' sold art hikes on the Pacific Crest Trail on Sept. 7 and 8. In addition, 300 enjoyed the 10th anniversary world concert in Truckee’s Regional Park and 300 third grade students participated in a music-infused nature art hike.
Described as magical, diverse and inspiring, the early September concert featured artists from around the country including Angelika, Jamie Vaness, Ann Licater, Reno Taiko Tsurunokai and the San Jose State University Symphony Orchestra. InnerRhythms Dancers, choreographed by Artistic Director Elizabeth Archer took to the stage dressed in white with paintbrushes in hand. As Ian Ethan Case played his double-neck guitar the dancers moved and swayed, painting and one another with vibrant splashes of color. Throughout the musical performances, muralist Susie Alexander painted not one but many distinct works on one canvas that was transformed into a scene of galloping horses by her brushstrokes, talent and imagination .
Trails & Vistas’ extraordinary collaborating partners include InnerRhythms Dance Theatre, KidZone Museum, For Goodness Sake, Arts in Wellness and the Truckee Donner Land Trust. Nancy Lopez, Trails & Vistas’ Founder and Executive Director, shares her gratitude for the businesses and individuals that have contributed to the creation of such a successful event – 2013 signature sponsor Sunshine Tahoe as well as the Cedar House Sport Hotel, Hampton Inn, The Truckee Hotel, Kelly Brothers Painting Company, Red Truck, all the media sponsors including The Weekly, Sierra Sun, Moonshine Ink and 101.5, and Danny Sturtevant of Evant Productions, Andy Hill for lighting and sound, emcee Kane Schaller and the dedicated volunteers that have loyally supported Trails & Vistas through the years.
